Report: Annual haze may return, possible further complications to Covid-19 patients

KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 — Medical experts have warned that the annual haze which normally occurs between June and October may return if neighbouring countries and Malaysia failed to control open burning.

Malaysian Public Health Physicians’ Association president Datuk Dr Zainal Ariffin Omar told English daily The Star that the haze will cause enhanced respiratory problems to Covid-19 positive risk groups such as the children and the elderly.

He said people should continue to mask up whether or not haze occurs this year as Covid-19 spreads through droplets and is not an airborne virus.

“There has been no evidence to suggest that the haze situation will increase the spread of Covid-19, so technically it’s a very remote possibility.

“But because the virus spreads through droplets, using a face mask will lessen the possibility of infection.

“I would advise people to continue using a face mask, before, during and after the haze,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Environment Department air division director Mashitah Darus said Asean countries must make sure that haze does not repeat this year.

She said polluted air can increase the risk of Covid-19 infection to the general public.

Kita boleh hidup tanpa makanan lebih lama tetapi tanpa air kita hanya boleh hidup 3 sehingga 4 hari sahaja. Jika satu hari tiada air di rumah, pengguna akan mula bingung memikirkan cara untuk mandi, cuci pakaian, dan memasak apa lagi jika rumah kita mempunyai anak kecil dan warga emas yang sudah uzur.

Kebiasaannya sumber bekalan air ni boleh diperolehi dengan pelbagai cara sebagai contoh dengan galian air bawah tanah; ambil dan tapis dari air sungai atau laut, pam dipasang supaya boleh menarik air dari kawasan yang tinggi.

Bagaimana jika sumber bekalan air susah untuk didapati, sehingga terpaksa dicatu dan kualiti air pula tidak memenuhi piawaian minimum yang ditetapkan? Kita semua tahu biasanya perkara begini hanya berlaku di Afrika tetapi malangnya perkara ini turut berlaku di bumi Kelantan Darul Naim.

Penduduk Kota Bharu terpaksa mencatu bekalan air sehingga ada yang tidak mandi, semata-mata untuk penjimatan bekalan keperluan yang paling asas untuk manusia iaitu AIR. Situasi terbabit dialami penduduk sepanjang Ramadan lalu yang menyukarkan mereka untuk menjalani kehidupan dengan baik seperti yang telah dipetik dari akhbar Harian Metro yang bertarikh 18 Mei 2020.

Water supply issue: Sharing between states to overcome shortages, says environment minister

MELAKA, July 9 — The Environment and Water Ministry (KASA) is in the midst of discussion on sharing of water between states, in efforts to resolve the country’s water supply problem, its minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said.

He said sharing of water being planned between states with excess supply and states experiencing water shortages, should benefit both the states and could be the solution to water scarcity.

He said among the states with surplus water supply are Terengganu, Pahang, Perak and Kedah while the state often experiencing water shortage is Melaka.

“We are currently looking into states having excess water, water being released into the sea which could be utilised and methods that could be adopted in order for us to be prepared,” he told reporters at a press conference during a work visit here.

He was commenting on a statement by NGO Pertubuhan Pelindung Khazanah Alam (Peka) Malaysia on June 30, claiming that the country is expected to face critical water problems in the next 10 to 15 years, if more aggressive action is not taken by the government or parties involved in protecting and conserving the environment.

Sindiket Macau Scam perdaya warga emas 90 tahun tumpas

PETALING JAYA - Kegiatan sekumpulan penjenayah Macau Scam yang menyamar sebagai kakitangan pejabat pos dan polis tumpas selepas lapan lelaki tempatan berusia antara 30 hingga 43 tahun diberkas dalam operasi di sekitar Lembah Klang pada 1 dan 2 Julai lalu.

Kumpulan berkenaan dikatakan memperdaya seorang wanita warga emas berusia 90 tahun hingga mengalami kerugian mencecah RM3.83 juta.

Ketua Polis Daerah Petaling Jaya, Asisten Komisioner Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal berkata, siasatan mendapati tiga daripada mereka ialah pemilik akaun.

Beliau berkata, polis percaya modus operandi sindiket berkenaan tertumpu kepada golongan warga emas atau individu yang kurang pendedahan mengenai maklumat terkini jenayah siber.

"Siasatan masih dijalankan untuk mengesan penglibatan suspek lain yang masih bebas," katanya dalam sidang akhbar di Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah (IPD) Petaling Jaya hari ini.

Don't wait until September to tell banks you can't pay

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federation of Malaysian Consumer Associations has urged borrowers who do not have the capacity to service their loans to get in touch with their banks soon.

"If you have genuine concerns about not being able to make the payments after Sept 30, contact the banks as soon as possible to explain your situation and seek to re-negotiate your loan.

"Don't wait for September to communicate with the banks or wait for the banks to communicate with you," said Fomca president Datuk Dr Marimuthu Nadason.

He was drawing on the moratorium for loan repayments that ends on Sept 30.

Marimuthu said the federation hoped that the banks would act with compassion and expressed confidence that Bank Negara Malaysia(BNM) would direct the banks to do so.

He also said those with a number of loans in a few banks can seek the help of the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency's (AKPK).

Loan payment: Fomca urges employees affected by pay cuts to speak with their banks

PETALING JAYA: Employees who are affected by salary cuts or retrenchment and need to service their loan repayments, are advised to liaise with their banks.

The Federation of Malaysian Consumers Association (Fomca) has urged these individuals to engage with their banks now instead of waiting until September, when the moratorium period ends.

“If you have genuine concerns about not being able to make the payments after Sept 30, contact the bank as soon as possible to explain your situation and seek to re-negotiate your loan. Negotiate honestly to find the best way forward,” Fomca’s president Datuk Dr Marimuthu Nadason said in a statement today.

For those servicing multiple loans with various banks, he suggests contacting the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) for assistance.

Pasca Moratorium: Usah tunggu sehingga September untuk hubungi bank

KUALA LUMPUR, 9 Julai  -- Gabungan Persatuan-persatuan Pengguna Malaysia (Fomca) meminta pengguna menghubungi bank masing-masing secepat mungkin untuk berunding sekiranya mereka tidak dapat membuat pembayaran pinjaman, apabila berakhirya tempoh moratorium kelak.

Presiden Fomca, Datuk Dr Marimuthu Nadason juga menasihatkan pengguna untuk tidak menunggu sehingga September untuk berkomunikasi dengan pihak bank dan mereka harus menjelaskan keadaan mereka secara jujur.

"Fomca berharap agar bank-bank bersimpati. Fomca yakin bahawa Bank Negara akan mengarahkan bank-bank untuk bertindak dengan penuh bertimbang rasa. Berundinglah dengan jujur untuk mencari jalan penyelesian terbaik demi masa depan.

"Namun, jika anda beranggapan tindakan bank-bank berkenaan tidak berhati perut, usah ragu-ragu untuk membuat aduan rasmi kepada Bank Negara. Menjadi harapan kami agar Bank Negara dapat bertindak dengan pantas dan berkesan menangani aduan dan isu masalah pengguna,” katanya dalam satu kenyataan di sini, hari ini.

PUTRAJAYA: The Environment Ministry received about 200 complaints of blockages from hardened fat, oil and grease (FOG) in the sewerage system in just 16 days of the recovery movement control order (MCO) when many eateries resumed operations.

Its minister, Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, said it was important for eateries to ensure FOG was managed properly to prevent clogs as well as water pollution.

“Excess FOG can cause our sewage pipes to be clogged, which in turn will pollute the environment. It will also disrupt the treatment process at sewage treatment plants.

“The Housing and Local Government Ministry has made it mandatory for all eateries to install, service and desludge grease traps at their premises as a requirement for renewing their business licences.

“Yet, we still find cases of FOG being disposed of into the sewerage system or drainage by eateries.

“Even worse, some contractors hired by these businesses take the easy way out and dispose of FOG into the sewage pipes illegally,” said Tuan Ibrahim at the launch of Indah Water Konsortium’s (IWK) grease trap desludging services for eateries.

Peminjam terkesan disaran dapatkan bantuan awal

PEMINJAM yang masih terkesan dari segi kewangan dan mungkin memerlukan kemudahan penyusunan serta penjadualan, digesa agar mendapatkan bantuan awal dan bersasar menjelang berakhirnya tempoh moratorium 30 September ini.

Menteri Kewangan, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz (gambar) berkata, langkah itu dapat dibuat dengan menghubungi institusi kewangan masing-masing atau Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK) bagi mendapat khidmat nasihat.

"Sehingga 6 Julai 2020, nilai moratorium bayaran balik pinjaman institusi kewangan dianggarkan berjumlah RM51.4 bilion. Daripada angka itu, RM17.9 bilion adalah jumlah yang dimanfaatkan sektor perniagaan manakala jumlah dimanfaatkan rakyat bernilai RM33.38 bilion.

"Walaupun hanya bersifat sementara, pemberian moratorium ini dilaksanakan pada masa tepat dan dapat membantu golongan terjejas terutama yang kehilangan sumber pendapatan.

"Ini dapat meringankan bebanan kewangan dan membantu isi rumah terjejas untuk meneruskan kehidupan tanpa perlu risau memikirkan komitmen hutang," katanya.

Sementara itu, Tengku Zafrul berkata, di bawah pelaksanaan Prihatin, kerajaan memperkenalkan pembayaran bersifat one-off dan ia mencatatkan kadar yang tinggi.

KUALA LUMPUR: Suruhanjaya Sekuriti Malaysia (SC) menggesa orang ramai agar berhati-hati terhadap penggunaan Mesin Juruwang Automatik Kripto (ATM Kripto).

ATM Kripto adalah mesin yang membolehkan individu membeli atau menjual aset digital secara tunai, kad debit, kredit atau e-dompet.

Mesin sedemikian ada di pelbagai lokasi di Malaysia dan membolehkan pertukaran pelbagai jenis aset digital dengan mata wang fiat dan sebaliknya.

SC dalam kenyataannya memberi peringatan kepada orang ramai bahawa entiti yang mengendalikan ATM Kripto dianggap mengendalikan Bursa Aset Digital (DAX) yang perlu berdaftar dengannya.

"Setakat ini, SC belum mendaftarkan mana-mana entiti untuk mengendalikan ATM Kripto," katanya.
