PETALING JAYA: Poor connectivity rather than cost is keeping commuters at the wheel, making free rides on public transport unfeasible in efforts to get people to leave their cars at home, say transport experts.Ajit Johl of the Association for the Improvement of Mass Transit and transport consultant Wan Agyl Wan Hassan agree that Malaysiaโs bigger problem is not fares but weak connectivity and poor last-mile links.
โSuch a system still makes private vehicle use more attractive for many commuters,โ they told FMT.Temporary free public transport is unlikely on its own to persuade large numbers of people to leave their cars at home, they added.

KUALA LUMPUR: A retiree has warned that he will take legal action against an insurance company and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) if they fail to respond to his demands over what he claims are excessive medical insurance premium hikes.
Lawyer Ng Kian Nam said his client, Wong Kee Chong, is demanding that the insurer stop imposing premium hikes beyond the ranges stated in the policy illustration; that BNM issue a permanent circular to enforce this; and that both parties explain why insured patients are charged more than cash-paying patients.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysiaโs push to link prepaid SIM registration with MyDigital ID is viewed as a crucial step to combat rampant scams; however, some experts express concerns it could undermine consumer privacy.Malaysian Cyber Consumer Association (MCCA) president Siraj Jalil said they have been advocating for this initiative since January.
โWe urged the government not only to reform prepaid SIM registration with MyDigital ID but also to track down the supply chain where registered SIM cards are sold illegally.
โThis initiative by the government is crucial, as scammers widely use registered SIM cards to conduct their illegal operations,โ said Siraj.
On Wednesday, Communicaยญtions Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil announced that all telecommunications companies in the country would be instructed to implement MyDigital ID in the prepaid SIM registration ยญprocess.
Fahmi said the policy would be enforced by the end of the year.
The measure, he added, would close loopholes in the existing system and prevent any potential misuse.
