ORGANIZATION PROFILE: FEDERATION OF MALAYSIAN CONSUMERS ASSOCIATION (FOMCA) The Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations or its acronym, FOMCA is a national non-governmental organization, which is voluntary, non-profit, non-political, and civic oriented. It is the umbrella body of registered consumer associations in Malaysia. FOMCA links the activities of consumers' associations in Malaysia and works together with the national and international levels towards strengthening consumer protection.
FOMCA's main concern is not only value for money but more so, value for people. FOMCA also promotes through the purchasing power of consumers a "need-oriented" development that will ensure socio-economic justice and environmental quality of life for all.
Objective FOMCA was formed primarily to: Strengthen the growth and spread of the organized consumer movement in Malaysia. Resolve consumer issues and promote the rights of consumers. Promote through the purchasing power of consumers a “need-oriented” development that will ensure socio-economic justice and environmental quality of life for all. Coordinate as an advisory body to all the other consumer organization in Malaysia.
Philosophy FOMCA is not only a consumer body, it is also a development body. FOMCA’s aim are: To create independence amongst consumers – “The Best Protection is Self Protection”." To create a wise, civic- minded society.
FOMCA practices: - Work in partnership with the government but not for government. Work with the consumers but not for consumers. Controlling exploitation and non-ethic practices in business and not against a responsible business practices
Role FOMCA has the following roles: Researching consumer issues and its implications on people Promote and conduct consumer education. Advocate for better consumer protection. Where required, conduct product testing.
REQUIREMENTS (if any): must have interest in the respective field.
INTERNSHIP PERIOD: Based on the students requirements.
LOCATION: Petaling Jaya, Selangor

MEDIA melaporkan berlaku kenaikan harga barangan di sesetengah tempat seperti di Ipoh dan Melaka. Kenaikan sekitar 50 sen hingga RM1 bagi sebahagian besar keperluan barangan harian ini sangat menekan pengguna dan masyarakat.
Menurut kebanyakan peniaga, bahan mentah seperti ikan, udang, sotong semakin berkurangan dan ini menyebabkan berlakunya kenaikan harga barangan, selain faktor pengangkutan dan upah pekerja.
Siti Rahayu Zakaria dari Gabungan Persatuan Pengguna Malaysia (FOMCA), berkata hal ini, berlaku disebabkan senario global seperti kenaikan harga makanan dunia. Menurut Indeks Pertubuhan Makanan, harga makanan meningkat pada Disember 2010 mengatasi 2008.

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 Jan (Bernama) -- Gabungan Persatuan-Persatuan Pengguna Malaysia (Fomca) hari ini melancarkan sebuah album mengandungi sepuluh lagu dalam usaha mendidik masyarakat mengenai kepenggunaan.
Presidennya, Datuk N Marimuthu berkata album bertajuk "Hak dan Peranan Pengguna - Ke Arah Penggunaan Berhemat" itu dihasilkan dengan kerjasama Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri, Koperasi dan Kepenggunaan.
Beliau berkata ia sebahagian bahan kempen konsumer kebangsaan sejak 2008 hingga 2012, dan merupakan satu sejarah kepada pertubuhan itu kerana bakal disenarai sebagai album lagu pendidikan kepenggunaan pertama di negara ini dalam Malaysian Book of Records.
"Lirik yang terdapat dalam setiap lagu mengandungi mesej kepenggunaan yang mudah untuk difahami oleh semua peringkat masyarakat dan boleh dijadikan bahan pendidikan kepenggunaan di sekolah dan institusi pengajian tinggi," katanya pada majlis pelancaran album itu oleh Senator Tan Sri Dr Jins Shamsuddin di sini.

FOMCA telah menghantar memorandum mengenai masalah perkhidmatan bas ekspres kepada Kementerian Pengangkutan Malaysia.Kemalangan ngeri di jalan raya bukanlah satu perkara baru di Malaysia, terutama kemalangan membabitkan bas ekspres.
Walaupun bilangan kemalangan yang membabitkan bas ekspres kurang berbanding kenderaan yang lain, tetapi apabila kemalangan berlaku, ia melibatkan kehilangan nyawa yang besar. Kemalangan besar yang melibatkan bas ekspres berlaku sekurang-kurangnya sekali setahun sejak tahun 2006.
Sejak kebelakangan ini, kes kemalangan melibatkan bas ekspres semakin mendapat perhatian masyarakat kerana tiada langkah penyelesaian dilakukan walaupun banyak kes kemalangan terjadi. Pada akhir bulan ini dan awal bulan hadapan, rakyat Malaysia akan menyambut musim perayaan dan cuti panjang.
Meskipun tiket bas ekspres sudah habis dijual, tetapi pengguna masih berasa bimbang sama ada mereka akan selamat sampai ke destinasi.
